Collaborative Planning

When it comes to collaborative planning, I am all for it.  For one, you put more than one mind together and can obtain different ideas other than just your own.  In a group setting, more minds are brought into the same area.  Being a new teacher, you are thrown into the fire.  Working with experienced teachers in a collaborative setting can bring new insight into your fresh mind.  I may have a way I think something will work, but an experienced teacher may tell me another way.  This new way could be more beneficial to me and my students.  Taking me current and past jobs and thinking about working in a group setting has always worked out for me.  I feel with groups, more knowledge is put on the table.  We may think we know it all, however, I have figured out this is not the case anymore.  The school in which I become employed at, I hope they have collaborative planning.  I want to learn as much as possible and the current teachers employed at the school will know the curriculum and ways to teach the information.

  1. Clint,
I enjoyed reading your blog! I agree that collaborative planning is a beneficial way for teachers to learn and to ensure the best information is given to the students. Putting minds together can make sure everyone gets the best information that can be given. It takes a village!

  2. If they don't have collaborative planning times, bring it to the table gently. I hope that they do, though, and that they are already doing a fabulous job at it!

  3. I like how you said,"Being a new teacher, you are thrown into the fire" because you are so right! As we learn, do field experience and go through student teaching we will always have a safety net. But that first year it will seem as if we are being thrown into the fire as we try to navigate everything by ourselves. That's another reason collaboration is so amazing because you will have that support system as a new teacher!
